I wouldn't really call this a dry fast at all but rather I think your dad was pretty much just ready to go. It is very common for people that are extremely sick and basically getting ready to move on to stop eating. Don't even give a second thought about the honey or whatever, it was his time to go and he went. Focus on the memories you have of him and not the way that he actually passed.
