Best thread I've read on rolling at a self-help forum
like this one:

http://www.acne.org/messageboard/topic/217908-ok-guys/

A few subjective tips:
1. Start with a .5mm, and work up
2. Don't ever use a roller greater than 2.0mm
3. Be careful and read up on numbing cream
4. Don't over-roll, rolling too often= zero results
5. Don't reuse your rollers, throw them away after 1 use
6. Use good rollers, don't buy cheapies
7. Think carefully of infection and how to prevent it
8. Take rolling seriously, not casually
9. Read everything you can and study it
10.Check rollers for bent needles before using
11.Generally, don't roll in the summer (if you do use
shorter needles 1.0mm max, like I used)
12.When you take a new roller out of the box, consider
it "unsterile", and sterilize it as best you can.
(the box will say its sterile)
13. Check contraindications and see if they apply to you
14. Are you healthy, listen to your body. Example, I was
very sick with the flu in February, and had a weak
immune system.... You need a strong immune system,
you are puncturing you skin thousands of times with
needles. Your body will be fighting potential
infection.

When I rolled with a 2.0mm (only twice), my face ached
for days, I couldn't even touch it for days. Best results
occur at the 1.5mm to 2.0mm length. But like anything,
there is greater risk. The longer the needle, the more
healing time you need. Probably the most common home
rolling length is 1.5mm. If you're comfortable with that,
possible to try 2.0mm. At 2.5mm you're hitting fat,
and could be problematic, don't risk it.

another good forum for info is "essential day spa",
member "Bethany" is quite knowledgable so check her
posts.
