I feel very sorry for you. Doctors seem to be pawing around in the dark and that Mirena is causing some women dreadful suffering. I don't know if you had the dirty smelly light bloody discharge for the time you had the Mirena in, but I had, it was not something I could live with. I also had all the symptoms you had, lying on the couch, thinking I was going nuts, go out for a walk, breathless walking and feeling like a very old woman. Seriously it was terrifying and all the gloomy thoughts. I'm not exactly Pollyanna, but this was ridiculous. I cannot believe ladies are expected to go through having a Mirena - for sex!!! Nothing is worth it. I stuck it about 6 looooong weeks. I got very, very worried with the migrane and somehow got energy to go back to Doc to have it removed. That was last July.
I am very happy to report that by Christmas I began to feel better, and forced myself to exercise regularly. Trying new things, from abseiling to clay pigeon shooting helped increase my self esteem too. But it was a sort of step by step thing and I'd have a few days I'd need to rest to get my strength back up. From years of heavy periods I was anaemic, and it was hard to raise the blood count because the periods were coming every 20 days for 6 to 8 days.
The Cure for me: Regular exercise, building up to 2 hour hikes or a run or swimming every day, with one rest day a week. I take a strong iron supplement (at a different time from) Green tea, Soya isoflavones (as I'm perimenopausal)and then I changed to the supplement Maca, lots of fish oils and a multivitamin and I eat lots of fish. Apples make me feel and look better, two a day. Lots of water. Kelly Howell Meditations, 1 daily. I took Barley Grass for 3 weeks which I think kick started me. Kundalini yoga is wonderful, I noticed a huge improvement in my hormones when I started that.
Take all the rest you need, go to a holistic health practitioner. There don't seem to be direct clear answers or cures with Doctors about female reproductive system. I was at a hospital before I'd the Mirena last year and the doctor kept saying, yes, that's normal for your age. Well that was no help when I was haemorrhaging, losing my strength and health every 20 days. I am angry at how many doctors I went to and nobody told me about taking the NSAIDs to control menstruation control. I found the cure on the internet and, low and behold, my Doctor said yes that might work and wrote the prescription. 5 years after I first went there with the problem!!!!
If you have heavy periods, taking NSAIDs before onset of menstruation until about day/night 3 really helps. Also taking cyklokapron three times in 24 hours helped me with the dreadful flooding.
So now I am healthier than I ever remember being, I can run for miles (away from Doctors lol) and mentally I feel better`, no brain fog. I actually got a sick stomach reading your post, it was exactly how I felt on the Mirena. You WILL feel better after that awful coil, be gentle with your body and mind. In my experience going with Homeopathic advice and natural remedies was a much better, personal way to deal with my menstrual health problems. :)
