Nobody really knows what they are.

Lyme boards say they are related to lyme
Barefoot MH says they are related to flukes

Some say they are banana fibers. Although some report them when not eating banana's, you are eating 3 per day so who knows.

Do a curezone search for "cotton balls with legs", or different variations, and you will see how many have reported them, but no solic answers as to what they are.
