Simply never growing up - this is huge (and I should have made this more clear in my post)

Because "growing up" is too exhausting, frightening, etc.

They didn't have their needs met as children and so they remain children in many ways- hoping some momma or poppa will come along and save them/fix them/etc.

This is a huge pattern in burnout.
