I am beginning to see many patterns among myself in my own recovery and my clients around being what I refer to as an "adult child"

Where the circumstances of your childhood required you to be "older" than you were so you had to "toughen up" or face lots of stress, etc.

This could in some cases account for the "calcium shell" -

But also a predilection to fight and flight and empathy and that "sixth sense" that I believe often comes from having to really deeply sense our environments for fear of survival.

Often, this carries through adulthood - manifests in difficulties coping - esp. with stress- and having burnout patterns.

Anyone relate to this? I'm not saying this is true for *everyone* - just a common theme I'm observing in my practice and also in my reading and my own experience.
