Hi mc
Very sorry for your kids really! Here are my two cents having sibo besides candida and parasites.
Aas you figure it out sibo is a general term for many specific different bacteria overgrowth so two guys having sibo act differently to the same treatment because they have different bacterial (or fungi yeast) overgrowth.
First important thing is to FIND OUT exactly what bacteria is causing it. Did you managed that?
Probiotics do more harm than good in the beginning or even later cause as you know already some of the bacteria can feed on probiotics. This is different from dye off. BUT the best approach is start slowly with simple strains first. Many sibo sufferers find help (including me) in taking simple acidophilus very low dose AND diary free plus free of any FOS GOs sorbitol maltodextrine rice bean...they should be as clean as possible. The only brand I can take without having problems (im not selling anything btw) is Natren diary free acidophilus and kirkman labs acidophilus hypoallergenic 3 millions per caps. Many times (not always) bifidobacteria can worsten the symptoms. I would try it anyway to se.
The diet is pretty important as you've read on the net. I've heard of cases being cured by diet a natural Antibiotic plus enzymes and low numbers of probiotics acidophilus than step by step increase the numbers and strains. Enzymes could be a great help.
There are people who were benefitting from conventional Antibiotics but not many as I've read and tested. Diet digestive help and Probiotics step by step should help. Improving digestion and not feeding them. Or the other way around :). I've found naturopaths knowing much more about that than top gastroenterologists. My experience.
