I'm not saying anything defensively, it's just that I've been reading up on this from the experts at Cedars Sinai, discussing this in depth with the gastroenterologists from John Hopkins that my kids have been seeing, and researching anything I can find regarding homeopathy and SIBO etc. My education has been expensive so if I can use it to clear up misconceptions - why not?

And since 80% of IBS is actually SIBO figured this post might get some interest - particularly since IBS has grown exponentially in a similar arc as the introduction of genetically modified crops in the food supply.

There's plenty of honest controversy on this whole subject though much as been learned in the last 15 years or so. One big area of controversy is whether or not to use probiotics as you point out. And that discussion is raging on some of the SIBO forums around the net.

My take is that it doesn't directly help IBS and can make the situation worse if taken at the wrong times (another discussion). But if not, it may be an indirect help if it makes you feel better - tho many SIBO sufferers feel worse after taking them. Basically if it feels good, do it - but that's not written in concrete.
