Sulfur also is like boron sometimes. I mean, you never supplement with elemental boron, it always has oxygen bound to it, as in B(OH)3, and borax is the anionic form of polymeric borate, with charge balance provided by alkali metal cation, such as sodium.
We can have sulfate, or even things like MSM but in each of these there are oxygen atoms bonded to the sulfur. It makes me wonder, what if a person eats elemental yellow sulfur ? haha, we know that we can eat charcoal and also potassium nitrate, and sulfur, charcoal, and nitrate are the components of gunpowder. Wouldn't it be funny if supplementing with gunpowder had a health benefit ? Its really not that far-fetched.
Sulfur, unlike boron, has several oxidation states ranging from +6 in sulfate all the way down to -2 in the case of sulfide ion. Sulfide is what is present in that spring water in Lampasas. It is a strong chelator of metals, which is why sulfide can kill a person because it binds strongly to the iron in the heme of the blood and renders it incapable of oxygen transport, so never ever ever supplement with sulfide ion !! I will stay tuned to your story but for now I get my sulfur from eating cabbage and eggs.
