You just found your culprit! Excuse all the skeptical posts from the couple of other posters. A lot of people don't like me talking about calorie-restriction around here. Maybe they have issue of their own with it. It's good you're honest with yourself about it because some issues can't be fixed if the person is in denial about it.
You now know the problem, so now you can get on with the solution. Just follow the advice in my first post. The high-carb/low-fat diet will allow you to reach your calorie goals without gaining excess weight.
It's possible you might gain a little more weight than you want at first if your body has been ravaged too much from previous calorie-restriction, but if you keep up with being calorie sufficient, your body with eventually normalize itself from being in a state of starvation.
