The sun is the best source of Vitamin D. Walking in the sun has many health benefits other than increasing your Vitamin D. It builds your immune system, kills stuff on your skin, increases Oxygen, lowers blood pressure, and lowers cholesterol.
Take high dose Vitamin D supplements to get your Vitamin D levels back up to normal. My doc gave me 5000 UI Vitamin D chewables to take once a week with a meal.
After that, it's up to you to change your habits. Walk in the sun, spend time outside, take time to go to the beach, etc. I think if you are light skinned and spend 10 minutes in the sun in the sun, it's supposed to create as much as 10,000 UI of vitamin D. Sure, you can take some supplements as well like fish oil which helps you absorb vitamin D and and buy eggs fortified with vitamin D.
