Your dietary/moralistic approach to ED is rather naive. Our heritage and longevity is via the Paleolithic diet (http://www.paleodiet.com/) which is the natural high protein diet of our ancestors and did not change until the advent of agriculture.
One of the leading causes of ED is overweight and obesity.
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/obesity/article_em.htm
"Obesity is an epidemic in the United States and in other developed countries. More than two-thirds of Americans are overweight, including at least one in five children. Nearly one-third are obese. Obesity is on the rise in our society because food is abundant and most of us are employed in positions that require little to no physical activity."
Type II diabetes goes hand in hand with being overweight and obese and is dead certain to cause ED.
http://spectrum.diabetesjournals.org/content/17/4/225.full
"In Brief Erectile dysfunction is one of the most common complications of diabetes and also one of the most underdiagnosed. Providers need to understand the pathophysiology of this condition in their diabetic patients and make an effort to diagnose and treat it. By doing so, they will improve their patients' quality of life."
Another cause of ED is the long-term use of alcohol.

Quick Facts on Alcohol and Erectile Dysfunction
"• Alcohol abuse in men can cause impaired testosterone production and
shrinkage of the testes (i.e. testicular atrophy).
• Alcohol dilates and expands the blood vessels in the penis. If you are able
to achieve an erection during this state, the alcohol in your system actually
keeps the blood vessels open, allowing the blood to drain out quickly, returning
the penis to a relaxed state.
• Long-term alcohol abuse affects the nervous system and impairs the impulses
between the brain’s pituitary gland and the genitals.
• Clinical studies have shown that prolonged alcohol abuse causes irreversible
damage to the nerves in the penis, resulting in alcohol impotence."
So, if you're a male and wish to avoid ED your best bet is to maintain a healthy weight - a BMI under 25 (for calculating BMI: http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/) and lower is even better. Also exercise regularly - which also makes you a better sexua| partner.
Yeah, zinc is important, but not nearly as important as BMI and exercise.
