Regular dogfood is usually a pretty good foundation as long as it is a good quality, but most dogs need some raw meat and some vegetable and fruit for good balance. I had a vet. tell me that most supermarket foods are too full of filler. A good quality food will satisfy a dog's nutritional needs and appetites with less and the dogs will also produce less waste. She said the huge piles of dog poo is not the sign of a healthy dog, but one who is being fed the wrong food or way too much food. My almost eight month old puppies (whose breed is a total mystery)are working on dismantling a deer skeleton and chewing on the raw bones, they also love most fruits and some veggies, although they hate broccoli. I am looking forward to learning more about the barf diet so I can keep my little rescued hillbilly puppies healthy and happy for many years. Every dog I've ever had has either been a "freebie" or a rescue dog, I've never owned a purebread.
