Hiya,

I'm doing 80/10/10 for over 6 years, I started experimenting with the idea before the actual book landed in my hands, so if implemented correctly, it works long term without a doubt. Candida is a non existing issue now for me, where it was something I seem to always deal with prior to that.

'Mono island' you're referring to is eating one type of fruit for a period of time (a week for example) to calm the system down as eating one type of fruit is very easy to digest. It's not something that must be done in order to start 811, full blown 811 is already way lighter to digest compare to the standard diets most people are on. There's also somethings called 'mono meals'- that means eating very simply each time, but getting an important variety overall. A lot of people make assumption that 811 is fruit only diet- this couldn't be further from the truth, the amount of leafy greens and veggies consumed on a daily basis is far higher than I've ever seen on any diet. Typical day would be something like: bunch of mangoes for breakfast, bunch of bananas for lunch, snacks in between in form of berries, melons, pineapples or other type) and evening huge salad (mixing bowl size) But you can make it as simple or elaborate as you want.

It's important to note that 80/10/10 is a whole foods diet, so even things like oils and juices, although sound 'natural' ,are refined foods (isolates), therefore are not part of 80/10/10.

There's a great deal of confusion regarding the Sugar subject, seeing that the terms sugars/carbs/glucose/starches are often used incorrectly.
The primary source of fuel for human body is glucose, and yes, it's sugar. It's so essential to keep human body alive that when there's no constant stream of glucose fats are being converted into it- and that process is very taxing on the body. If you look closely at people trying to go against their natural design who consume low carb diets you'll see they eventually start to rely on stimulant, supplements, meds etc (talking from experience here and watching other people for many years)

The problem starts when we're not differentiating between whole carbs and isolated carbs

Whole food sugars naturally occurring in whole food carbs are intrinsic sugars and are ESSENTIAL.

Extrinsic sugars are those that have been removed from their natural source and isolated and to be avoided in all cost. The confusion lies in the fact when we study isolates and they effect on the body concluding that isolated fructose (extrinsic sugar) equals intrinsic sugar, which is not the case.

The notion that fruit might be causing weight gain doesn't have a basis in reality- in fact ,our 80/10/10 community is often being criticised for being too thin!
I find it slightly odd that the co-author of "Eat fat to lose fat' Sally Fallon is actually overweight and actively gives people advice how to be thin. Nothing personal against the lady, but it's alarming when someone claims to be a weight loss expert and verging on obesity.

Weston Price loves bringing Inuit diet as an example of healthy tribe thriving on high fats and meat. I really urge people to dig deeper and study for themselves, because it's clearly not the case. Yes, human body will adapt to survive, that's absolutely correct, but in terms of 'thriving' - we may have a different idea what that means.

Gong back to Candida- quite often people get so consumed with 'killing it off' not realising it's a life saving mechanism, so candida needs to be actually present constantly to serve its function. It's not about 'killing it off' but removing the causes of flare ups. Flare ups are the issue, not the candida per se. If you get rid of candida completely- you're putting yourself at risk.

Candida blooms when there's an EXCESS Sugar present to keep blood Sugar level in check. So addressing high blood sugar issues will automatically remove candida flare ups. High blood sugar is caused by high fat intake since fat blocks the insulin sensitivity and stops sugar from being transported to cells efficiently and as quickly as it supposed to. So if you lower your fat intake, your blood sugar level stays perfect, and therefore no need for Candida to 'eat' the excess to keep the balance, and therefore no flare ups are experienced.

This is getting really long, but hope it makes sense!
