Well the reason to do a mono-fruit island compared to a Water Fast is to not have to calorie restrict. The biggest mistake on any plant-based diet is calorie-restricting. Some people might have a hard time eating enough due to digestion problems, but a MFI is also a recommendation for digestion issues. If a MFI doesn't work, Dr. Graham then recommends a supervised water fast.

does talk about low-fat plant food calories reacting differently from high-fat food calories. I heard her talk about this in an interview I can't find right now. From what I remember she was basically saying low-fat plant food calories burn cleaner so you need more of them compared to high-fat food calories.

Switching to heavy veggies first might be the better transition. One thing I did that I've always thought about might of made my transition to high-carb & fruit successful is since I really didn't know how to eat plant-based when I switched other than avoid eating meat-based, I just started eating salads all day, more like Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live method. I didn't eat high-carb/high-fruit off the bat. I wasn't even juicing high-starch veggies all the time as my base during my week long juice fast. I didn't start incorporating more fruit and tubers or grains until almost two months after my juice fast if I remember correctly. Maybe during that span the fat in me lowered enough to where the high-carb & fruits didn't negatively affect me anymore as it once did when eating high-fat. I don't think you would need to go that long before incorporating more fruits and starches, but maybe a couple of weeks. Let us know how it works for you!
