Dear TMAU sufferers I was doing some research on this "monsterous" "thorn in our flesh" and I found this site that was an eye opener. We, who have this disorder, have a defective gene called fmo3. This defective gene is in every cell located out and inside our bodies. If any cell has to be replaced with a new one, the defective gene fmo3 within our cells is replicated and duplicated over and over when old cells are replaced with new ones. This is why primary and secondary sufferers of this disorder, TMAU, cannot get rid of completely the terrible odor, even though one has tried and did everything humanly possible to cure our "highly smelly" problems and issues. This gene, when not defective is suppose to break down choline and other sulfuric compounds but doesnt because of being defective. This is a very interesting read; and at least we know what causes the problem and what we are going through is not just in our heads. This site even gives some solutions or reminders on how to treat our issues concerning TMAU. You can type in FMO3, or visit this site: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/trimethylaminuria. As I have stated before black tea has greatly and tremendously reduced the foul odors of my TMAU. Take care all :). Also, I have learned that our parents who are carriers of this defective fm03 gene passed it onto us and as a result we have TMAU. It would be interesting if some research could be done on why the mutation of that gene becomes defective....Scripturally I know why, scientifically I have no answer.
