Yes - exactly - candida in its fungal form is extremely debilitating. Affecting so many other body functions. As most on here are battling with.
I've mostly over the years been treating all these ever-growing symptoms with dietary adjustment. I didn't know then what i know now and should have done alot more than i have.
One thing i did recently which i haven't done for 4+ yrs is an enema. A clear water enema followed by a coffee enema. For severe brainfog. I had a good purge and retained the coffee enema well.
But afterwards felt very weak - not clear and the mental energy i was used to.
Due to constipation since doing the enema i was forced to do another one after 3 days of no BM's. Interestingly the first 'clearing' water only enema cleared no stools from me but what did exit was some stringy things.
I was curious what they were so with tissue investigated them. They were about 3mm thick, and 5 cm long. Dark brown, rubbery with a T-shaped 'head'. Upon research online the only thing that matched what i saw were FUNGAL candida strands.
These things were made of stuff (cellulose?) that i could not pull apart without considerable force (definately NOT mucous which tears easily) also 'squishing' them with my fingers didn't change their structure...they were that tough and rubbery.
I believe the oxygen-rich water rapidly introduced into my bowels dislodged some of the fungal candida. I'm going to start experimenting with H2O2 (Hydrogen-Peroxid) when i feel stronger. I think oxygen is one key to help eliminate candida, possibly.
Also another element of systemic candida is the increase in the toxin Acetaldehyde. The same substance one has floating around their blood stream after getting drunk. Hence why hang-over symptoms resemble candida toxicity symptoms - except us candida sufferers are experiencing a CONTINOUS hangover!
I've been taking NAC to help break-down acetaldehyde. I think it's helping me detox better as that was one thing i have been struggling with. A stuck system - toxified with candida toxins and metals - nothing moving out.
I'm not sure, at this stage in my awareness that candida itself is an actual diagnosis of a condition. I believe it's more of a symptoms than a root cause of ill health.
I'm one for always asking 'why?' - and so therefore ask why has candida become aggravated and systemic in a body? I've been on a very wholefood diet for over a decade yet nothing has changed my awful candida status....so it's not just a wild diet that brings it on - as others have a diet that would grow candida colonies from here to kingdom come and don't suffer with bowel problems etc.
There's an underlying cause always causing a cascade of symptoms - candida being just a symptom in my opinion.
Tracing back my early memories of medical issues has helped illuminate certain imbalances that have been ignored and lead to worsening symptoms.
I think angelofeventide who posted earlier is correct in that many underlying conditions are gene mutations that can be missed our entire lives.
It takes alot of intuition, listening to one's body to get to the route of health problems. When one has so many symptoms it's easy to think there are many problems - which there generally is - but if the route imbalance is discovered - correcting that leads to the other conditions correcting themselves.
Don't give up OP - you say you have felt better bit by bit so you are onto something. I would hazard a guess that infection is causing a cortisol stress response, (i too was hyper for yrs before crashing into hypo) and although it may be hard to detect - it is possible to treat infections with alternative therapies without knowing the source. Plant-based therapy have several compounds to attack bacteria as opposed to Antibiotics containing one element to kill one specific type of bacteria.
Sub-lingual and anal Colloidal Silver therapy is something worth looking into as studies show it to be effective at killing numerous bacteria that Antibiotics barely touch.
Something i will try myself.
