My observation was that toxicity associated with caprylic acid developed over time, limiting its effectiveness to about 4 weeks.

I don't recall the specifics of candida cell lifespans, but it was in the neighborhood of 3 to 10 days, and maybe more. During that time it could give rise to 25 generations or so of new cells.
