This guy really sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

I should also tell you, because i dont believe you were on this site at the time, that I went to a conference called the Grand Rounds which is a conference between all of the best dermatologists in my city. And they all examined me and my biopsy/culture slides, and discussed it. And the conclusion they came to is pretty much the same as your dermatologist says. They said to just use Vaseline and not irritate it any longer.

So it sounds like its not as much healing the skin but rather stopping any irritation so that the inflammation will fade.
