Hi,

If you can, getting swab of the culture is a good idea, but you also don't want to wait around too long to treat something by the sound of your symptoms. Knowing if you have a regular staph infection versus MRSA can really help in knowing what treatment to pursue. MRSA is more resistant to treatments than the more common staph infections. Many think its due to prolonged use of Antibiotics , that the bacteria has become stronger over time. I am normally against taking Antibiotics , but in this case I really felt I needed to.

I don't think its something you would only pick up in a hospital. Staph lives on surfaces, like even our skin for example, even if we don't suffer from an infection. Its just another type of bacteria out there, though a harmful one if it gets to the point of an infection. I imagine you could pick it up from something like a door handle, but it exposure to cuts etc that leads to infection.

I had an MRSA infection awhile back. I cannot say how I picked up the infection, but I think I had it for some time before I realized how serious it had become. I was run down for a long time, and after being treated realized how I had been simply living with how lousy I felt, and not really realizing something was wrong. I was always tired, had no energy, and picked up cold and bugs often. I just assumed I wasn't blessed with the energy and immune system other seemed to have. So I was pretty happy when I got better!

Eventually the staph appeared as boils, I had at least three or four in different places, and they were very painful.

Iodine is a way to keep the boils clean. You must be cautious when cleaning because you don't want to spread the bacteria coming from boils around to surrounding areas. Cleaning the are around the boil with Iodine can help too. After I would cover the boils with a cotton swab and medical tape, and this would allow a place for the boil to rid itself of the bacteria. I found I had to change the bandages around two or three times a day. The pain does go down after the material has expels itself. You want to let the boils breath and stay dry.

I took three different runs of penicillin type Antibiotics , I can't remember what the name of the final one was that worked, but it was strong!!

Around the time of the last dose of antibiotics, I started taking Astragalus tea, and a Tsp or two a day of Manuka honey. These two things I discovered through research, and have a reputation against fighting MRSA. I noticed almost right away the boost in energy Astragalus tea gave me. You can take it as a tincture too, and it is often combined with Echinacea. I would recommend it to anyone who has a low immune system, though you may want to do some research because I'm not sure if it interferes with other medications. It is an amazing substance, and along with giving energy, it warmed me up, my body felt perpetually cold with the infection.

I hope you are able to find more info. I hope you feel better soon!

Garlic is another helpful remedy. Remember to crush it and allow exposure to air, so the compound Allicin can form, the powerful ingredient in garlic!
