That's pretty simple - the pigmentation of their skin blocks out the sun's rays.  In fact, when they live in Northern climes that becomes a big problem because exposure to the sun produces vitamin D in the body and with less sunlight they become vitamin D deficient.  In fact, many people in Northern climes are vitamin D deficient - that's why I take supplements 'cause I'm a Whitey.
