Thanks for adding those important points.
I'm beginning to think the symporter problems are due to a lack of immune system, such as vitamin D and gut bacteria.
Not sure how this fits in, but I have been looking at why dr's refuse to do iodine supplementation on those who are hyperthyroid, yet, there is a huge link between hyperthyroid and lack of vitamin D.
Maybe get D levels up and then supplement with iodine?
Just something to think about.
