Great response! Yes,...some people are poorly informed, as you guessed at the end of your original post!

These nasties LOVE an acidic environment,...they HATE an alkaline one! You were right,...and you're doing great!

My pH goes back down to yellow, (5.5) when they are in die-off! Feel like crud! Like you,...when I'm blue or purple,...I feel GREAT!
