Hey longterm, on page 1 in the article (you posted a link to) it reads, "topical applications of 1% hydrocortisone-
neomycin." So I think it is safe to assume that the topical solution used was 1% of both agents. Neomycin is an Antibiotic so, that proves that EC is some type of deep tissue infection. Hence the "rare" cases of it occurring in the general population. However, the people in the article described this as occurring due to their overexposure to the sun, there was no claim of them picking or biting their lips.
The thing I don't understand is that if this IS some type of deep infection then, why don't boxers, other fighters, skaters (whose lips get split open at times) develop this condition? With their lips split open there would be enough chance for bacteria to enter and cause this.
Longterm, are you going to try these injections with your doctor? I had 6 injections of corticosteriods from a dermatologist years ago and they didn't help. All they did was just hurt like all hell as no type of anesthesia was applied.
Thank you for the links lipshitz. I actually found one of them on my own (before you mentioned them) through my Internet searching.
JayeJaye, yes, I have seen Daniel Miller's website. My lips looked EXACTLY like his in the beginning stages of my EC. My condition seems to have dwindled down a bit somehow and no longer gets to that extreme.
I would gladly go through the hellish pain of lip injections with no anesthesia again if it meant that it'd completely cure my EC so that I could have my normal life back. :-(
