Your story sounds very familiar probably because I've been there.

The best advice I can give you is to get tested for TMAU as soon as possible and keep a diet journal. With a diet journal you write down every single item you consume every day. And then if you go out that day, you write down any reactions you might get. The idea is to try to make a connection between what you're consuming and if you're smelling.

I would also suggest that you go on the TMAU diet while you're waiting for your test results. This would include limiting foods that have choline, betaine and sulfur.

My last piece of advice is to cut out all herbal supplements you might be taking and all drugs or medications. No alcohol, no caffeine, no aspirin, nothing. For years I drank caffeine everyday and took antihistamines never knowing it was causing me to smell so bad. When I get sick I try to rest, eat healthy and try remedies that do not involve drugs or herbs.

I'm still waiting for my TMAU results, but I've been on the diet for the past several months and so far I'm doing pretty good. The biggest difference for me came when I cut out caffeine and aspirin (I get migraines sometimes). Sometimes I will rarely allow myself a cup of tea or I'll take aspirin if my headache is terrible, but I try to avoid it.
