I am always wary of these "reports"--since, as Chris has said, we can't know the circumstances, or actually, if it's even true! (that the person was water fasting, as it's therapeutically thought of.
In any case, it is sad--for the faster, and the MD--however, it might be the silver lining in the cloud for that MD (if it's in fact true), in that leaving the system might be the best of all choices available, and lead to better things, more in line with the person's beliefs. Belief in what you are doing goes to the heart of things--pun noted.

Fear is what the reporting would seem to be promoting.
