From the relatively small amounts I've learned about Ayurveda, it seems that cold foods - especially chilled or frozen - should be avoided, as they reduce stomach fire and place stress on the body. I believe TCM has similar beliefs.
In addition, milk can also be a little difficult to digest when stomach fire is low - especially when drunk cold, straight from the fridge. If an ayurveda doctor recommends milk (for nutritional properties) it's usually taken warm, with a little ginger powder or other spices to aid digestion.
So, consuming ice cream would - I assume - be strongly recommended *against*, as it combines cold and heavy properties that can weaken digestion. This was the case for me - I used to drink my own banana smoothies straight from the fridge/freezer! They tasted delicious, especially on a hot day, after cycling, but the extreme cold must have been a horrendous shock to my digestive system and overall body.
Do you recall if the Ayurveda practitioner was a fully qualified BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery) doctor? Did they read your pulse, examine your tongue, eyes, etc.?
