hi everyone, I finally feel like posting this. So I had surgery on my bottom lip on Sept. 20th she removed some damaged skin from the inside of my lip all the way across. Did it help? yes and no, I think mostly no at this time, but I am not sure. I still have severe pain at times and I am taking Vicodin and Percocet, my lips are still very dry and I have to keep putting vaseline on them, however the corners of my lips seem to be mostly healed and the bottom of my lip seems to be healing somewhat by itself. My lips don't hardly peel anymore only in a couple of spots, but I kind of wish they would because the skin there is still dry and swollen and driving me nuts. So she did get some of the damaged skin out and the pathology report just showed inflammation like my biopsy did 10 years ago, she said only in one spot though. Anyhow it was not fun my stitches were supposed to dissolve and they were basically peeling off with the dead skin that is still there and after 2 1/2 weeks I couldn't stand it anymore and I was cutting them and pulling them out they were hanging everywhere inside and outside my lips. My mom told me that I looked like Frankenstein. I think my lips do look a little better, but I have alot of pain now. She said that she would do surgery again to try to remove more of it and it might help and it might not. My pain is so severe at times I was going to try to get referred to a pain management person but they will not see me for this reason apparently. I still never quit smoking but I don't think that made a difference, I smoked right after surgery and my cigarette was all bloody, pretty bad I know. Besides pain I also have alot of numbness which may go away or be permanent. I am still drinking through a straw and eating hamburgers with a fork. The surgeon told me that this condition is rare and chronic, obviously. I have also been using 3 different cortisones since my surgery and they do not help, probably makes it worse but everyone keeps telling me follow up with your dermatologist and actually I am doing that next week, but they pretty much gave up on me. I think I want to try Protopic again for a longer time period and maybe the Methotrexate again a stronger does for a longer time because that seemed to help somewhat. I also think that my lips got infected because I got a blister that swelled up twice where they did the incision and had sticky yellow stuff coming out of it and my lips are very red around where she did the incision on the inside and outside, the surgeon told me that it was not infected that the incision came open and the skin is raw, I think she is high but anyhow I am going to do surgery again probably in a couple months because I still think it might help to get more of the infected skin out and maybe try the Methotrexate after that if I need to because I am not sure what else to do. Also someone asked me on the Bioskin cream that I used that cost $80 I only used it for a week and I did not like the way it looked or felt on me lips very thick and shiny and it did not help, basically anything that I used that helped me worked right away and then quit working, the one thing that helps me a little bit to make my lips look and feel better is water, but then my lips are very dry and I have to put something on them, sorry this is so long I also might do surgery on my top lip someday but she said she couldn't do both at the same time or I wouldn't be able to talk or eat. I will let you know results down the road, but am planning surging again even though it is quite horrible to go through
