Fasting for political/religious reasons will be conducted mostly differently from a fast that is conducted therapeutically (without stress and anxiety). Fasting is not just the abstention from food.
Early in the fast weight loss is only rapid in overweight or obese individuals rather than in those who are of a normal BMI, but will steady down to a loss of about one pound per day for mostly everyone. Weightloss in such circumstances has nothing to do with a negative sodium balance, but has everything to do with fluid loss and that of soft and surplus adipose-tissue.
The remainder of the extract is largely true with the advent of gluconeogenesis, as this is a period of the transference of the fuel supply from glucose into ketosis or fat-burning.
The alleged medical "complications" that occur in fasting such as gout is a rare and temporary measure in the elimination of uric acids within the joints being released for elimination. Most all conditions can become worse when fasting before they improve, or are eradicated during the fasting process.
Postural or Orthostatic Hypotension is quite the norm' as the heart is at rest, and blood pressure is lowered if too high and the blood supply to the brain is lessened and indicated by standing or arising too quickly.
Cardiac arrhythmias are also quite normal for most and physiological in character rather than pathological in nature, as the heart readjusts itself to a reduced workload and its efficiency is increased, favourably interrupting its electrical activity.
