"It's not depression..."

It might not be Depression in the form of sadness, suicidal thoughts, etc; however, there is a form of "depression" called Catecholamine Depression.

Cat. Depression involves the same group of neurotransmitters--catecholamines--that include the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine associated with certain addictions.

Cat Depression might feel more like lethargy, poor motivation, possibly the inattentive form of ADD.

So when you see the sexua| image you get the boost of adrenaline (made from catecholamines) and your brain feels more normal. An adrenaline addiction might be involved.

The stimulant medications for ADD might actually help if the underlying problem is low levels of catecholamines. This was an unexpected positive side effect for me when I started taking a little bit of ADD medication. The adrenaline rush was not so intense. My will power had much better ability to *choose* what I would do. Whereas without the medication, the rush was very powerful.

Okay, I know this is going to sound strange but it is my story. It turned out I had a heavy metal problem with lead and cadmium, probably some mercury too. After two years of detox--amalgam filling removal plus frequent dose oral chelation--my doctor was able to wean me off of the medication. I'm now just using supplements, especially tyrosine, which is the amino acid that is used by the body to make the catecholamine neurotransmitters. Also my primary concern, strangely low bone density in my mid 40's, was also greatly improved by reducing the lead and cadmium.

Now even though I'm not on medication I don't have the adrenaline rush. I'm able to be more relaxed and caring when in intimate situations with the woman I'm in a long term relationship with. She really likes my new personality.

More on my experience and tips on supporting catecholamines here.

I've seen over 200 hair tests from members of the chelation groups. There seems to be a link btw cadmium and catecholamine symptoms.

"We are addicted to p 0 r n because it makes us feel good. It gives us a high. It's the same with any other addiction in life. Smoking, overeating, drugs, alcohol, etc. Modern life is rife with addictions."

Florida Detox and Wellness Institute in Tarpon Springs, Florida, has successfully treated over 5000 addicted patients ...we have successfully proven that over ninety percent of addicted patients self-medicate with drugs and alcohol in their attempt to balance their brain chemistry and “feel more normal”.

"Just saying no is not an effective way to overcome these addictions. Saying yes to other things does work. Like you have said about developing more of a social life. Spend more time with friends. Do something that you have a passion for."

While I agree, it is only helpful to an extent. When the adrenaline addict comes across stimuli, it is can be *extremely* distracting. It can become very difficult to continue to do anything else.

I've found this concept to be useful in understanding that experience.

Food Addiction and Stress Eating Mechanism Identified
http://www.wellnessresources.com/weight/articles/food_addiction_and_stress_ea...

'By experimenting with mice that were bred to have no sweet taste ability, a direct link of food intake to pleasure has been identified for the first time. This mechanism is important because it links food acquisition directly to addictive or stress-related eating “solutions.”
The researchers found that Sugar could activate the pleasure center in the brain even though the mice could not taste it. They demonstrated the activation of dopamine, which is the reward aspect of eating – an important survival mechanism. However, all addictive patterns use this same brain circuitry to stop the feeling of emotional pain or a tired head.'
[note medicine for ADHD increases the availability of dopamine in the brain.]
