Hey Daniel. I remember browsing your site and watching your youtube videos years ago when I had first developed cheilitis. I think the fact that your documenting this condition with videos and pictures is very helpful to the community!

Yes, my lips were extremely bad. It was bleeding, cracked, very flakey, painful cuts on the corner. I didn't take pictures though, sorry. My lips did look similar to yours when I tried leaving it alone for a period (No lip balm, saliva or any product). The dead skin would start crusting and then fall off. Then my lips would look fine for a half a day, and the cycle would repeat. After almost a month of this I stopped because it didn't get any better.

Virus causing EC? I don't know. Sounds interesting but I don't have a clue when it comes to the medical field though, so I won't comment.

Oh, and feel free to link my story. PM me if you want to speak further.

Other thoughts:

- My experience is of course anecdotal. But I'm very certain that the combination of saliva and cocoa butter immediately improved my lips and cured EC.

- During these past 3 and a half years EC free, I've had times where I was extremely stressed, depressed, had poor hygene and nutrition, yet my cheilitis never returned. Saliva/cocoa butter always made my lips look nice and smooth. I was never embarassed of my lips.

- I found an article about saliva where scientists identified a compound that promotes wound healing. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080723094841.htm

- I was very hesitent to lick my lips at first. I forgot to mention in my first post that besides the habit of picking my lips throughout my life, I also licked my lips a lot which I think contributed to having my chapped lips before I developed cheilitis. I don't think saliva, alone, will cure EC. But only in combination with a lip balm. That said, I haven't tried any other lip balm other than Palmer's Cocoa Butter, since.
