What could the link possibly be??? I was mystified for a while. So today I broadened the search and found the link: Here it is:
Q: sciatica and hypothyroid
can sciatica and hypothyroid be connected
A: Absolutely! Hypothroidism is the second biggest contributor to neuropathy (nerve damage), second to diabetes. Nerve function and sensitivity are very closely tied to thyroid function.

Thank you so much!!! My gyn just diagnosed me with hypothyroidism

Here is the link. Iodine deficiency directly causes hypothyroidism, and it is the resulting hormone imbalance that causes nerve pain.
You very likely were suffering additional symptoms of hypothyroidism such as cold hands, cold feet, and body temp below 98.6 degrees. Cure your hypothyroidism with Iodine supplements per this file:

What do you think? Did you have hypothyroidism?
