My doctor treated it with flucanazole. I think it was 200 mg a day, for several months. I think it made my stools better, but my lungs were my real problem, and I'm not sure that it helped with them, as I had ups and downs, and toward the end got worse. I'm off of it not though, trying a different therapy for my lungs, and I've made steady, slow progress with it (Dr. Hahn's Antibiotic treatment protocol). Not cured, but substantially better. My digestion is horrible now though, but my lungs have been my higher priority. I'm pretty opposed to Antibiotics , but it seems to work. I'm back in the gym now, and trying to run (progress is slow--I wheeze and cough lots after I'm done).
The geotrichum in the gut--some doctors will say it doesn't do anything. Others say it can. I don't know the answer to that. But my tests came back showing that flucanozole was best for treating it. Other things tested were: nystatin, garlic, undecylenic acid (found in castor oil if I recall correctly), plant tannins, uva ursi (I drank the tea version, but read online cautions about it). I tried some of these with my antifungal, and was on it for several months (I forget exactly how long--maybe 6 months??).
While on the antifungal, my doctor also had me taking a good dose of milk thistle seed to protect the liver, and I tested every several weeks to check my liver (no change in it whatsoever, it was steady and healthy the entire 6 months). As an antifungal/detoxificant, I added castor oil to my usual drink: 1 TBS of Sonnes #7, 1 heaping teaspoon of Sonnes #9, 1 teaspoon of Castor oil, mixed in water (and sometimes added capryllic acid as well, but that has less effect on geotrichum than castor oil per my testing). I drank this once or twice a day (morning and before bed). I think this drink is generally good for the digestion, as it keeps cleaning out junk, but I'm no expert.
Caprylic acide and berbrine had lower antifungal impact on my geotrichum, as did itraconazole and ketoconazole.
The testing that was done never specified whether geotrichum in me was in the yeast or fungal form, and from what I've read, it can be in either form. Some on here will tell you that you need to use something to detoxify the body, so I also tried some of that (chlorella, etc). I'm pretty healthy, apart from my lung issue that developed, so I'm not sure I'm overtoxified. I have good energy, clear thinking, etc. But who knows.
Ask me if you have more questions, and I'm happy to share with you or others on here. I don't know the geotrichum is my problem, as you would think I would be getting worse while on regular Antibiotics like I am, but that isn't the case--I'm steadily, slowly recovering, at least to some point (I may get stuck at some point, who knows).
So anyhow, just because geotrichum is found in your stool, it may not be causing what your problems are (want to post on here what your health problems are??). But at the same time, our minds are powerful tools, and maybe, just maybe, if we believe hard enough that something will work, maybe it will . . . I'm full of doubts about things, very analytical, so that is hard for me--believing something will work, so don't let my attitude rub off on you.
