As far as I know, just my top lip was triggered by an allergen. But many people only have EC on lower lip. I am left with EC on my lower lip right now.

My lips just looked unsightly when they were orangish-yellow color. After they got clear color in 3 or 4 months, I could go places. I just looked like I had severely chapped lips from dehydration like I do now if I do not trim them. I do not know if some people have more toxins in their system coming out so their lips look worse than mine did while trying the leave alone method.
