Glad to see somebody making some progress with this condition.
I'd like to take the same approach as you but when it gets to the point where the skin is just flaking and hanging off I always remove it so that I get at least a few hours where my skin looks at least slightly "normal" before they start to peel and flake again. I just find it really difficult to manage everyday life when my lips look disgusting and I've got into a cycle of manually peeling them around every 30 hours or whenever the skin starts to crack and flake off.
