For me, it started one month after removal and lasted for a good year and a half. I was having these flushing episodes daily, sometimes many times a day, accompanied sometimes by nerve pain. They were sometimes unbearable. I could only relieve it by elevating my feet and blowing a fan on them while misting them. I still remember watching my 3 year old daughter playing with her dollhouse and keeping the mommy doll in her bed all day with her feet under a pillow, because that was all she could remember me doing! I was in bed most of the time for a year. It wasn't just because of the flushing, but also because of fatigue, dizziness, etc.

Anyway, after a year and half (this would be July 2011, a year ago), the hot flushes became milder and less easily provoked. I would say they are 90% resolved now. Sometimes if I'm on my feet for a long time, and I'm feeling warm, I'll started to feel them flushing a bit, but only a bit.

I had found an article documenting a case of erythromelalgia in a woman due to her birth control hormones. My Dr. said these types of symptoms were associated with autoimmune diseases, but he still doesn't believe the Mirena has anything to do with my health.
