Always helps but the primary job of Mercury in mining is to leach gold from rocks by breaking its strong bond and amalgamating it with Hg..

Hg does the same with other metals, one is Zinc and by amalgamating with zinc Hg can cross the Blood Brain Barrier more quickly and effeciently. This is why one MUST supplement Zinc with Copper in proper ratio and best to have the Zinc in a chelated form already.
