So after my discharge from the hospital for heavy uterine bleeding due to fibroids 9 days ago, I had blood drawn 3 days ago and the doctor's office called me and told me that my liver enzymes were high. (AST and ALT 170+.) I went in for another blood draw yesterday so they can get more information on it.

I wondered about the high dose of cod liver oil I was taking so I stopped that completely for the follow up blood draw, but I'm going to start back up on a regular dosage.

Since I got great info here that the Iodine could be causing elevated TSH I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about elevated liver enzymes?

I'm thinking it's unrelated and maybe I'll need to march over to the liver cleanse forum, ha ha!

As for an update, if anyone's interested, my bleeding stopped only twice for several hours until 3 days ago I went for acupuncture. It picked up briefly for a couple of hours then went away almost completely ever since (except for a few drops here and there). I'm going to go every Monday for a while, plus I'm taking the herbs.

The past two days I took 25 mg Iodine as Lugol's, and today I decided to start hitting it again with a real dosage and took 100 mg. I really want to fix this...

I'm refusing any ob-gyn treatments (progesterone/progestin, surgery, ets) but I did let the primary care doc talk me into a low dosage of Synthroid. I'm going to ask about my ferritin levels today, because I was reading on this forum that ferritin levels affect thyroid hormone usage. I've felt absolutely no difference from the pill so far, but I'll be vigilant for effects. I know the Armour is better, but I can switch to it if I have problems. I thought about it all day and decided it might help me while I am trying to fix my thyroid through the Iodine treatment.

Another thing that could have affected my "perfect storm" is that I started to eat per Weston Price about a couple of months ago, which I understand, also from reading this forum, uses up even more iodine because the high fat. Otherwise, the diet was working for me. I had lost a couple of pounds and my head felt clearer.

I do need to lose more weight. In the past six months I had lost 10 pounds through a ~great~ deal of effort. I'm 5' 5.5" and before I went into the hospital I was 186 lbs. Since I've been home I've lacked energy or interest in preparing food, and I don't eat processed food, and my body seems very picky about what it wants, so I'm actually down to 180 already. My appetite seems to be coming back though as my anemia improves -- I don't think that rate of weight loss is healthy, though I understand excess weight is linked to fibroids and estrogen dominance.

Thanks again everyone!
