Hi ayla99,
In answer to your question: "what is the best idea to keep most of the weight off after the fast is over? AND is it true that your metabolism really slows down and you gain all the weight back and some more"?

Keeping weight off after a fast can be very simple: just follow a low-calorie but nutrient-dense diet. In other words a plant-based diet that is properly combined, and eaten only according to genuine appetite. Plant-based does not necessarily mean plant-derived foods "exclusively", as some meat (organic) is allowed. For example I eat some chicken and oily fish.

The fast results in a lowered state of metabolism to conserve food reserves, and this continues for up to 4 to 6 weeks after the fast is broken, so the above is all the more important when we consider that more calories in, and less calories out, results in weight-gain. Also, improperly combined foods results in more fermentation and putrefaction, and a major cause of weight-gain.

If the body is not satisfied "nutritionally" this will result in more hunger, whereas if it is satisfied nutritionally, this keeps hunger at bay as the bodys appestat (and therefore hunger) is switched off. Overeating, and therefore excess weight-gain, is a result of eating nutrient-deficient foods or the wrong "type" of foods: hence the obesity epidemic in the United States and elsewhere.....................

"Low nutrient eating, therefore, establishes a mechanism that leads to food addictions and food cravings that can't be ignored. This is the reason why calorie counting diets fail. Without addressing dietary quality, excess food cravings are almost impossible to ignore".....Dr Joel Fuhrman MD.

Most everyone knows the adage that "all diets work.....but all diets fail"...........once you stop the diet, and return to old eating habits, the pounds just pile on again, so a Nutritarian diet is more a "a lifestyle way of eating" than a diet per-se.
A Nutritarian way of eating (properly combined) therefore allows you to almost eat with impunity (everyone's favourite diet) !! without gaining weight, but does allow you to establish a state of physiological equilibrium and achieve your normal and ideal weight.

In addition, there is an exercise programme endorsed by Harvard, that burns fat for up to 48 hours AFTER you have finished exercising to maintain a normal weight or BMI or lose excess weight; this is known as P.A.C.E. or: “Progressively Accelerating Cardiopulmonary Exertion” and it gradually challenges your heart, lungs, and blood vessels to build their strength. It involves doing short bursts of exercise with a resting phase between each burst much as you would if you a were predator or prey.

Burn fat while you sleep........................

Hope that helps.
