I believe my Fordyce spots might have something to do with my EC. I know not everyone with EC has them. I wonder if they do, but not know it if the glands are smaller not showing as much as others. What I know is I have raw skin where the fordyce spots are because something is coming out of them, which makes the area moist all the time. It is moist in a bad way because I think toxins from body come out of them because there is an opening in a gland. This is what others have speculated at least.

To be honest, I don’t clearly understand what Fordyce spots are. I am no expert, but here is what I read online:

“Oil trapped in sebaceous glands cause fordyce spots. If oil is not being released, the lips will be dry.” I don't know if some people have fordyce spots without blockage that causes too much moisture, while others have fordyce spots that are clogged that causes dryness.

“Fordyce spots are glandular inflammation.”

“Fordyce spots are like skin fungal infection- using apple cider vinegar 1-2x week, then washing it off with warm water next morning kills fungus.”

“Taping tissue paper, toilet paper, paper towel, napkin over fordyce spots at night helps to keep them dry and make them less visible. Or drying out sebum in fordyce spots for 1 minute with an oxy pad with 2% salicylic acid also helps.”

The point of the cure is to reduce sebum production. I know some say that lips do not have sebaceous glands, but maybe some lips do. All I know is my lips are not like other people’s lips.

What has worked to reduce the number of fordyce spots on people’s lips is the CO2 laser or using the lowest setting on the hyfrecator (electrodessicator) at the dermatologist office. Dr. Eric Huang at Nguyen Dermatology in NYC is one dermatologist who has successfully treated fordyce spots with this procedure, but any dermatologist can try it. I think my lips will dramatically improve if I have this procedure done.
