#141490,
The better question is how many of us have fasted for 21+ days and not lived to tell the tale! But, in all seriousness, it's only natural to worry about fasting because we're so far out of tune with nature in what we used to think of as the normal world.
This forum is stock full of evidence of the safety and success of water-only fasting but even the conventional science/medical world have proven its safety and efficacy. This research paper http://ukpmc.ac.uk/articles/PMC1274154/pdf/westjmed00207-0055.pdf
is an excellent example although it is mainly focussed on fasting as a treatment for obesity and ignores any other health benefits that may have occurred.
I've completed 3 short fasts and one 21 day fast, the latter being so easy that I was really disappointed when the time came to end it. Having spent 3 weeks fasting, I would have loved to have taken it all the way to completion but couldn't due to other commitments.
I agree that fasting in a state of fear is not a good idea. However, fasting with a healthy sense of caution is OK so I suggest moderating your concerns by reading as much about it as possible from the old and current masters plus review the years of history on this forum. Ask as many questions as you wish for points that you would like clarification on.
Fasting is a great tool if used correctly but only really effective in the long term if combined with a healthy lifestyle that addresses all of the factors of health to include pure air, pure water, an ideal diet, sunshine and natural light, exercise, rest, sleep, and relaxation, right temperatures, emotional balance, freedom from addictions, high self-esteem, a purposeful life with meaningful goals and nurturing relationships.
So, look forward to your 10 day fast and cherish the experience and let it build your resolve to come back and do a longer fast when you're ready and when you have the right support from those around you (or alternatively can fast in an environment that provides that support.)
