Don't feel stupid, you're smarter than most folks it sounds like.

If I ran into a bump in the road, I'd just quit everything for a couple days, drink a bunch of water or beer or juice, etc. eat a nice salad and a couple eggs. The more water you drink, usually means the quicker the crap will get flushed out. Chicken soup is always good, lots of chloride. I'd replenish potassium with orange juice or V8. Most folks are wayyyy low in potassium according to a Yale study I once read but can't put my finger on at the moment. I like OJ alot.

If you wanna get technical, take 15 grams of vitamin C crystals and 6.5 grams of baking soda. Throw both the powders into the bottom of a 2 liter (or 2 quart) pitcher. Dump in a can of thawed MinuteMaid orange juice concentrate and stir real good, then add one minutemaid can of water and stir some more. It froths up alot. Let it rest and add another can, stir and wait a bit and add the final third can. Now you have about 4 - 12 ounce glasses of OJ that each contain almost 4 grams of vit C. I drank a pitcher of that almost every day for 21 years and this old body don't have a wrinkle on it and its a good performer. Add a little lysine and you're a lean mean collagen-producing machine. It means ya don't get sick but very rarely and if ya get wounded ya heal super quick.

OK, so I hang out with gals but they all express amazement at how youthful my bare body looks. I ain't braggin or nuthin, just the facts ma'am and I share this for others' benefit. But I didn't invent it. Look up Matthias Rath, MD, he's been at this quite a while. Lots of MD's wrote their beneficial observations about ascorbic acid, yet the monied interests still find it desirable to hire folks to cut it down. Its really a no-brainer. Most mammals make their own ascorbate ( vit. C) but man's liver is missing one enzyme necessary , I forget its name but names don't matter. I've actually seen women with wrinkles lose them after just 3-4 months on this juice and 2-3 grams of lysine a day and a diet that has decent protein content. The skin is an outward manifestation of what's inside, so it likely helps organs be "younger" as well.

Plus, the little CO2 bubbles adsorb onto the pulp in the OJ and you get a kind of "carbonated OJ" effect. If you want to make a badasss margarita, try what I wrote using lime/lemon/margarita mix. It's awesome.
