Yes hummus is similar but this is way runnier.
You could also add garlic to a blender and do the same sorta thing adding oil very slowly with breaks in between and the garlic would get fluffy, then lemon juice and salt to taste. If you don't want to bother with the tahini, you could go this route, but expect it to be much stronger.
The garlic really soaks up oil if you take your time with it. And taste-wise, Canola works best but I avoid Canola and settle for Olive. I'm sure you could try other oils like sunflower or something just to keep it light in flavour and colour.
I don't really use this on a regular basis because I'm always rotating antifungals, but when it's garlic's turn I usually consume it this way.
