I guess its just an individual thing, personality type or whatever. One of my grand daddy's used to gamble horses in the 50's, he lost a lot of $$ at it. For me, I just never had an inkling for it. My father in law gambled away his inheritance which was substantial. I don't understand it. I mean, a reasonable person must absolutely know that the odds are against them, but yet the urge to wager overwhelms the spirit. I don't know but sense that its not really about winning the big money, gamblers who win big don't stop. It must be about some kind of endorphin release that comes along with the anticipation of the win, or else the endorphin release from the anxiety of just having put a bunch of $$ on the line. Some people are natural-born risk takers, and I don't see that as a bad thing at all, just part of us. I mean, Audie Murphy certainly was a risk taker, and you see TV shows where people do crazy stunts on bikes, aeroplanes, jumping off cliffs, etc. They're thrillseekers, and I suspect that gambling is just a different form of thrillseeking. Don't think me weird for saying this but if I was a habitual gambler, I'd look for some other activity that released endorphins, something legal that has some risk attached to it, like becoming a police officer, join the military, etc. But I'm probably wrong, if it were as easy as becoming a cop to get off a gambling habit, it'd be common knowledge.
