I feel for you. I have been doing different types of Iodine off and on for several years now. Had been doing mainly SSKI this year, as I could no longer tolerate any elemental iodine. Got courage up to go get labs. A1c was 5.5,the best it has been in years. I noticed I did not have as much of an appetite on SSKI , so that probably helped. But cholesterol was out the roof - over 300. Was put on high dose Niacin 500mg once daily. I checked out the book Niacin: The Real Story by Abram Hoffer and others, then upped my Niacin to several grams daily - but please be careful if you have diabetes and research thoroughly. I also added B2 100 mg back in with each 500 mg of Niacin, even though I had already been taking a B-complex and other Iodine companions with Vit C several grams daily. I did start feeling better. I had taken ATP Cofactors with my Iodoral several years earlier, but for some reason it did not help that much. Maybe I was not taking enough. Anyway, I have noticed I can tolerate even a little Lugols now, but not sure how long that will last. All I can figure is that I must have some sort of symporter defect.
I think Dr. Brownstein may have even recommended backing off Iodine until Niacin/Riboflavin gets saturated into cells. I am also trying to watch B12, as Dr. Ben Lynch, who is big on methylation, cautions that high dose Niacin may run out B12. And one of the Iodine doc studies on symporter defect on Dr. Flechas' site show that a patient's D3 went down with high dose Niacin. Hang in there!
