Hi Kristen:)
Apparently it's really common to feel worse before you feel better on a gluten-free diet, how do I know this? I googled it:
http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=celiac+getting+worse+befo...
And apparently going GF can make other foods problematic as well. I had quite a severe reaction to Chinese food recently. Sure, wheat in the soy sauce but another poster here pointed out that it was probably the MSG. I keep "testing" myself to see if I am really gluten-intolerant, had a little here and there. Sometimes no reaction, usually, yes, reaction. I had never had a reaction to Mono-Sodium-Glutamat (Natrium Glutamat) though. Not that I strive to make that a part of my diet, mind you, but we cannot always control every bite!
~peruse some of the threads in the celiac forums, most enlightening.
Also, here's a link to recent thread with lots of good info. Yes, you need selenium. Iodine is essential, but not knowing what the cause of your hashis is(could be excess iodine), I hesitate to recommend how much. If it were me I would play it safe, start low and titrate up.

Please follow the links in my post in that thread. Info on underlying infection and selenium.
AND. You might need thyroid meds. If you haven't already, Listen to the Dr. Mark Starr audios here:

Sure we want to cure everything ourselves, but I have seen so many stories of people whose lives have vastly improved after taking thyroid.
Also check the hashi's info at http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com
They'll have good info on the numbers, testing, etc.
Gotta go. Married to a nut that will only shop for groceries when the stores are empty so I'm in for a fabulous Friday night!
