Come Downtown..... Have to rumble in the Alley........

Very insightful post V.

I certainly agree with the heart and soul /slash/ nuts and bolts of it.

As someone who grew up among the "1%", well I will share a few of my observations.

"Among the best people I've met are poor who do not let their poverty bother them - they seem happier than most of the middle-crust ones. The majority of the wealthiest ones I've encountered are among the worst types.."

It is amazing how many people I have encountered in my life who don't have much in terms of money............
But yet are completely content and satisfied. And still would give you or a stranger the shirt off their back. Even though they may have an empty wallet. And go out of their way to "do" the right thing. It is amazing.

"The majority of the wealthiest ones I've encountered are among the worst types. "

One needs to be careful about generalizing. About poor.... or .... rich.

All the poor ain't Saints and all the Rich ain't A-Holes.
But I will 'second that emotion' that I have run into some pretty rich people, both male and female, who have the soul of a flounder. And who you feel for. And just don't "get-it"............

"Many of the lesser souls actually enjoy seeing their brethren living in poverty".

I have been fortunate to have not run into many people like this. But they are there.

" it gives them opportunity to think they're better somehow, because they got born into moolah galore or lucky somehow".

This I have seen. And although the previous two quotes above were part of a single sentence or thought of yours...................

Well I thought it best to separate them.

This I run into this constantly and continually.
This society worships people who "have". Whether born into it, or made 20 million from a movie, or making big real estate deals...........
Or making a sh*tload from selling lots-of 20 dollar bottles of a Charlie's miracle liver tonic for 300 bucks a whack. It can get insane. Ain't that the truth brother..........................

" There are a few who are really really smart , and kind and made it on their own - they are a different breed.:

Like my Old Man. God I miss him. Born in 38. Was in the Naval reserves back in high school and college. On a submarine. But got kicked out because of health issues. I think it was a bad back or something like that. Not something the U.S. Military would throw you out for in today's world. Never actually graduated from college. Was a semester or two short.

And he made it on his own. And was retired out in Tucson. And whenever he was shopping in the supermarket there - and Tucson is a military town - well he would bump into a miltary guy or gal in the grocery aisle and buy all their groceries for them. And he always told me..............

"I ain't ever seen a Hearse with a luggage rack on it.........................."

And Levon just died a few weeks ago. And I remember where I was back in 86 - well in the senior smoking lounge at my high school - when I found out that Richard Manuel had died. Such a great talent. To hear Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton talk about this guy. And I was fortunate enough to seem him live a few times...........

Unfortunately the fame and the fortune and the girls and the adulation.
Didn't do much.
And to go out via a noose.......

Money doesn't buy anything...............................
