One thing to keep in mind when considering these knowledge pursuits is that in the plants organism, and ours, the role played by entering substances is often seemingly minute. Also as in the tree analogy the reason for the soil weight staying reletivly the same is in that its basic consituants were not necessary to the growth of the tree. The tree's use of light is not inbibing it to add matter but in fueling a process that does. When we look to see how molecular compounds are broken to fuel process' and to add nutrients in our physical systems, we see that little is retained vs how much is used, ideally, healthily.
One popular inventor, maker of the boogie board, metioned to me once how he figured that with all the sunlight pouring down on the earth for ages, that the earth must be gaining weight since we know that light photons have substance. He was considering that the light was being taken in or added to the plants structure rather than it being a fuel used and exhauted to another form. The soil weight research tho helpful doesnt account on a small enough level to be a full sumation of it's attempt to find truth.
I like the highsschool science winner who homeopathesized fertiilizers and fed differnt potencies along with regular strenght fertilizers and also a control of stricly water. The findings won her the award and the results were, and they were dramatic, that the largest healthiest specimans were tha ones who had , according to western scientific tecniques, no fertializers in them at all. Course we arnt to surprized at that are we.
