'Been going to MEX for 25 years (started when I was 21)All over....Except Baja.. My Mexico protocol is to start each day off with a shot of Tequila Añejo(the slightly sweet sipping kind) preferably in the sun...Then it's on to some of that STRONG Mexican coffee with brake-fast... Then it's time for a dip in the Ocean(if it's near;) And at the end of the day (no matter what!) same thing. A shot to sip on! Enjoy your trip!
If you ever fly into Cancun Airport, outside the airport building there are several little sidewalk bars.. I have a tradition of doing a Tequila blanco shot and a beer (when I still drank it) now it's just the shot, as soon as I clear customs! Once a few years back traveling with a friend we (unknowingly) came in a few days BEFORE a national election. Got out of customs went to our fav little sidewalk bar and 2 federales were stand on guard... We ask for our "traditional" customary landing salute two shots Blanco por favor... and get all the explanations "No, No Tequila, cervesa, no,... election is Sunday. We are thinking WTF??? we aren't voting, We just got of the plane We have been doing this for years, this never happened? give us a landing shot this is our religion time for our ritual!! "No senior" SORRY... They told us we would have to go to a restaurant(Senior Frog's) to get loaded... Next day we went groc shopping and the supermarket coolers, full of ice cold tasty beverages, the kind we like to drink in the sun, were PADLOCKED SHUT WITH YELLOW TAPE POLICIA CAUTION CUIDADO and SEVERAL federales standing near each cooler!!! We asked a woman who explained Workers have the weekend off to vote so they lock down the booze, otherwise most would not make it to the polls! Oh,we thought. Enjoy your trip
