Whatever it does it can put enough into the blood stream to cause issues when the Iodine dose is large enough.
However one of the side effects of Iodine is that it doesn't allow the metal to settle as fast.
This can be problematic if there is a lot of metal in blood yet better than dumping it into the brain.

It will not displace other Halogens to speak off, you need VitC to do that. The only case I know off where it does displace some is when large dosages of KI are taken as in 1-2g of SSKI per day, it seems to push Bromide that is otherwise bonded out of the system.
A Gold Leaf a day is your best shot at keeping Fluoride out of the system..
